An Insufficient Apology

A self-explanatory title. I had been just awful to someone very important to me. I realized it immediately when I said what I’d said, and there was no taking it back. The severity of the moment unfortunately also severed any and all communication. The only way to express the regret, remorse, and pain was to put it into this piece. That person finally heard the piece a few years later. I’m actually not sure whether the apology was ever accepted.

It’s kind of a cello feature, but more of a conversation between the cello (honestly, the world’s most perfect instrument) and the rest of the ensemble. I love this piece. This one and Lemonade might be my two favorite original works I’ve ever created.
